Under the radar

KKR’s acquisition of BMC Software for $8.5 billion will provide the boost the software company needs.

18 March 2019

BMC Software is somewhat of an enigma, a company largely operating under the radar. But just because it doesn't attract the headlines doesn’t mean you should ignore its importance.

The seventh largest enterprise software company in the world, BMC’s annual revenues of $2.2 billion are split roughly 50/50 between mainframes and enterprise service management. The second of these areas has seen BMC rated as a leader in Gartner's Magic Quadrant for IT Service Management for the past five years. There are only two players in that top leadership quadrant, BMC and ServiceNow. And according to the matrix, many of the other players in the area, such as IBM, Micro Focus and CA, lag far behind.
