Business

A big ask

The need for independence and her desire to make a mark drove on recent business award winner Andrea Rademeyer when all about her thought she had "lost it".

31 July 2003

Just seven years ago, Andrea Rademeyer started up business in her study at home with nothing more than a PC. Today her company, Ask Afrika, has a staff of nearly 100, two offices in different parts of the country and a client base that includes the likes of Standard Bank, Cell C, Old Mutual, Absa and the SABC - some of whom have been on board for the full seven years of the company`s life.

"No-one helped me or supported me initially," she says. "Everyone thought I had lost it - giving up a good corporate career for the uncertainty of an idea." Despite the less than encouraging start, Rademeyer was determined to succeed, craving the independence and the "opportunity to do more than corporates can ever allow you to do".
