Roundtables

Never waste a good crisis

Businesses large and small face challenges around identity and access management (IAM). How do you make sure that a long-serving staff member doesn’t have access above their station, or, as happened at an unnamed entity, are being paid for months after leaving the organisation? There are also challenges with employee adoption: why should a password be reset every month if everything worked just fine before you arrived in the IT department? And, as participants at this roundtable attest, the staff will probably just write their password on a sticky note, and then paste it somewhere in plain sight.

Proper access and identity tools will improve an organisation’s security posture, streamline processes and save it money. But, as is so often said in the IT industry, it’s a journey.

At this roundtable, every participant says they’re still using passwords in their business, and for Sandro Bucchianeri, group chief security officer at Absa, passwords aren’t going away anytime soon.
