The rise of software-defined networking

SD-WAN is not just a new networking technology. It’s a keystone to the digital revolution and opens the power of networking in unprecedented ways.

28 January 2021

Software-defined networking, or SD-WAN, has jumped out of seemingly nowhere to become a popular and increasingly- adopted technology. Not bad for networking, a technology estate component that is as far removed from business discussions as one could imagine. Adoption rates cited by Gartner, IDC, and others are all double-digit, and interest among enterprises seems to match that enthusiasm.

This is a significant trend, and a vibrant topic of discussion at one of Brainstorm’s executive virtual roundtables, co-hosted by Vodacom Business. During this event, we explored the nature of SD-WAN, why it’s so popular, what the results are so far for those adopting it, and how trends differ between enterprises and smaller organisations.
