The underlying theme of November’s CIO Council event, held at Summer Place in Johannesburg, was disruption. Discussions were around disruption in technology, the economy and within industries, and perhaps most importantly, taking a disruptive approach to thinking about everyday challenges.

Microsoft USA’s chief operating officer Kevin Turner said that when you combine disruption and innovation, you create new opportunities. “Our world is changing in many ways and the innovation we’re seeing right is ushering in a new era of robust technology. It’s catalysing change in business models and processes at a higher frequency than ever before. And the faster it moves, the faster we need to move to keep up.”
