Going out with a bang

Geraldine Fraser-Moleketi’s appointment to the United Nations is either a great opportunity or an invitation to seek shelter from the impending storm.

05 February 2009

Former Minister of Public Service and Administration, Geraldine Fraser-Moleketi, has moved on to greener pastures. Head-hunted to a post that will see her at the level of assistant secretary-general within the United Nations Development Programme’s Bureau of Development Policy, Fraser-Moleketi has been appointed as a director for Democratic Governance.

The post has been dubbed by some as “ironic” on the back of continuing investigations into her lack of diplomacy in overseeing governance duties within the local ICT industry. One source, who chose to remain anonymous, says that although Fraser- Moleketi’s loyalties and fairness while still in public office are still in question, one has to consider that she was recognised for excelling in her duties as a minister. “We have to consider that we were looking at her performance specifically pertaining to [the ICT] industry, whereas she performed her duties as Minister of Public Service and Administration admirably,” the source says.
