Battening down the IT security hatches

Increasingly sophisticated access technologies are causing headaches for IT security practitioners. Brainstorm spoke to three CIOs about what they believe an organisation’s security policies should be in 2013.

In the past, if you wanted to know what your company was worth, you counted your physical assets, says Kovelin Naidoo, eBucks CIO. “Today, your net worth is stored on some digital platform out there,” he says. “Looking at it in that context, you need to consider whether you’re spending enough on IT security.”

In 2012, there were many high-profile cyber attacks on corporate networks, both at home and abroad. With the surge in mobile devices interfacing with corporate networks and the ground gained by organised cyber criminals, there’s an urgent need to secure networks intelligently and tightly, and to have a contingency plan in place in case things go wrong.
