How is technology to be taught in schools? It’s a problem that has vexed more than one teacher, which is why some have tried to incorporate things like 3D printers and circuit boards into their curricula. It seems that making something corporeal is more meaningful to pupils than a lab full of computers.

Melanie Shimano is a teacher in Baltimore, US, and is leading the charge in at least one school, fusing coding, robotics and agriculture into a single module that’s keeping her pupils focussed and fulfilled tinkering with their ‘Food Computers’.
