Tapping into the future

In writing this article, I learnt one very important thing about South Africa’s gig economy: the industry’s scalability makes it a highly viable option to alleviate the country’s high unemployment rate, especially among the youth.

The potential for platform work is seen as the key to unlocking demand for low and semi-skilled labour. To investigate this potential, South Africa in the Digital Age (SADA), a multi-party body, was set up in 2019 to answer the question: What are South Africa’s income-generating opportunities in the digital revolution?
