Shifts in technology across the stack are creating radical changes in IT which will influence how databases are designed and how applications are built.

This is according to John Roese, global CTO at EMC, who discussed this 'new stack' with bestselling author Geoffrey Moore at the company’s convention in Las Vegas earlier this year.

Tracing the history of the traditional IT stack, Moore said it had been built around global ecommerce in the 1990s and that systems of record and database transaction systems had been 'what IT meant'.
