We Are Monsters (WAM) describes itself as a company with a new approach to web development. It has a broad range of software development services and solutions designed specifically for the South African market. The company grew out of one idea, a few failures and the need to create a business that fixed some of the issues around freelancing and outsourcing.

“WAM came to be in order to solve a couple of different problems that my co-founder, Stephan Steynfaardt, and I experienced with freelance staff and outsourcing companies while working for our previous employer,” says Pieter van Reenen, co-founder of We Are Monsters. “We tried and failed at a couple of versions before we came up with the right formula. When we started, we were a dev shop servicing agencies so we could one day produce our own products. Today, we partner with NGOs and some of Europe’s biggest companies to mentor and accelerate human talent.”
