 With companies like Jumia and Konga riding funding waves, it looks like the African e-commerce space is developing apace. Yet serious challenges remain in the sector, preventing it from fulfilling its potential.

With investment from the likes of Orange, MTN, AXA and Goldman Sachs, Jumia - formerly known as African Internet Group (AIG) - now has a valuation of over $1-billion, making it Africa’s first 'unicorn'.
