In January, Africa-focused startup Andela announced it had secured a $100 million Series D funding round, taking its total raised capital to $180 million. So what, you ask?

Andela is one of the best funded companies on the continent, but venture capital is flooding in across the board. What makes Andela unique is that the company has raised such money, and from investors as significant as Al Gore’s Generation Investment Management, the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative and Google Ventures, for doing little more than training Africans in software development.
