School in a container

Revolutionising the education system often involves the phrase ‘smart school’, but South Africa’s reality still features school buildings made from mud. How to bridge that gap?

After accepting an invitation from the Sizwe IT Group to be part of an e-learning summit hosted in East London back in 2017, CoCrea8 Technology Solutions (or Fujitsu South Africa as it was known at the time) sat down with the then MEC of Education to discuss various challenges facing the department. What became evident during these discussions was the province’s backlog in the transformation of schools operating in mud structures, and the scarcity of facilities teaching IT skills to primary and secondary school learners. The department said the province had a total of over 400 schools that needed a major shakeup and renewal projects.

Steven Kramer, CoCre8 Technology Solutions’ channel and marketing manager, believes it’s important for the public and private sectors to form alliances that are aimed at improving teaching models. And the foundation for that relies on making the necessary infrastructure available in order for schools to keep up with technological advancements happening across the globe.
