Yaskawa’s Nicholas Hughes talks robots and robotic engineering.

Robotics, it turns out, is less glowing red eyes, Terminatoresque dramas and someone enunciating the name ‘Dave’, and more about spending a lot of time digging into code, systems automation, breakdowns and innovations. For Nicholas Hughes, customer support lead at Yaskawa, his journey into the world of robotics has been a blend of insanely interesting technology and humdrum troubleshooting.

“The role involves a lot of time figuring out why systems have broken down, understanding automation systems, and how things tie together,” he says. “It’s also about ensuring that you’re on top of the technology – it’s always changing and different customer systems and requirements mean that they all need different things. That’s when life gets very interesting.”
