Going for the kill

A Johannesburg teen is helping visitors to the Kruger Park get their money’s worth.

01 February 2013

On King David student Nadav Ossendryver’s trips to the Kruger, he would annoy his parents by stopping every single car and asking the occupants what they’d seen. A self-described game-viewing enthusiast, Ossendryver decided to launch a community website to guide other wildlife fans to the best game sightings. So during the 2011 school holidays, he got a website going and taught himself to program Objective-C, the language used for Mac development.

“I didn’t have a Mac so I borrowed a friend’s for two weeks and learned how to program Objective-C 24/7, so I could get the iPhone app done over the holidays. It’s now had 15 000 downloads. I’ve done everything – the iPhone app, the website and the Facebook and Twitter feeds. Now I’m getting other people to help me.”
