More Microsoft suits

Hoping to capitalise on Microsoft`s recent willingness to settle a variety of antitrust lawsuits, the founder of Go Computer filed two suits recently alleging that Microsoft used illegal means to prevent Go`s pen-based system from taking off.

Jerry Kaplan filed suits in both United States federal and California courts accusing the software maker of coercing a number of PC makers, including Toshiba and Compaq, into ignoring Go`s software in favour of Windows. Go`s software allows users to enter text on a screen directly through the use of a special pen.

Microsoft has been the target of a number of antitrust suits from a variety of parties, including the American Department of Justice and any number of other software companies. The company recently settled a suit filed by IBM for $775 million.

Kaplan sold Go to AT&T in 1994 and earlier this year bought back the company`s remaining assets, including its claims against Microsoft.
