With the goal of becoming far more strategic within its organisation, the South African Department of Justice`s human resources department committed itself two years ago to playing a more valuable role in the transformation of its department into a successful service delivery organisation.

While many different routes were proposed, one thing was clear upfront – the department and its chosen partners would be faced with some serious challenges, namely: * negotiating the sheer volume of DOJ`s workforce; and * the rather outdated systems and processes HR was using.
