Well, here it is.

While Linux used to be regarded as an operating system strictly for enthusiasts, today it is a viable option for companies of all sizes and home users alike. It rivals proprietary offerings like Windows and Mac OS X for stability and application availability, but more importantly, for simplicity and user-friendliness.

So has the enthusiast been left in the dark? Is there nothing left for the true techies out there, who enjoy hacking through kernels, compiling their own source code and fiddling around in the guts of their software?
