SA banks still wrestling with blockchain

Blockchain in financial services? It's going to take a while.

Banks, those most keen of competitors, have in recent years shown some appetite for collaboration around emerging technologies. One area of interest is around blockchain and distributed ledger technology (DLT), and through the South African Financial Blockchain Consortium (SAFBC), the institutions are getting to grips with how this technology can change, or possibly disrupt, their business models.

The consortium has been around for about two and a half years, and I remember its inception; there was a sense among the participants that they were forging a new path, with new technology.
