What’s next?

Gartner’s Dave Aron provides some clues.

Have you ever heard someone use the term ‘bimodal’, or perhaps you’ve used it yourself? To recap, it’s the practice of managing two separate ways of working, one predictive, the other exploratory. It’s now stock and trade in the IT world, mainly through the efforts of Gartner, and while it’s beginning to show its age, it’s still surprisingly useful in all sorts of contexts.

Dave Aron, now a fellow emeritus at Gartner, was the man who actually coined the term, and he was in the country recently to deliver the keynote at this year’s Gartner CIO Forum in Johannesburg.
