Building a human firewall

If people are the weakest link in your security landscape, how do you strengthen that link?

21 October 2019

Research has revealed that the majority of cyber security breaches stem from human error. While to err is human, the threat landscape is polluted with attackers trying to take advantage of users, which can cost your business dearly. Advanced security tools, solutions and practices, regardless of how sophisticated, will always be limited by this human factor. So what’s the answer?

Most experts agree it’s crucial that organisations put together a training plan for new employees to bring them up to speed on cyber security. But how frequently does training need to happen? “Cyber security is a dynamic environment with an ever-evolving threat landscape. Ongoing training leads to the establishment of a cyber security culture where people are informed and able to actively join the human firewall,” says Professor Elmarie Biermann, director, Cyber Security Institute (CSI).
