The wires were buzzing in March after Microsoft announced the delayed release of its next version of Windows, dubbed Vista. As many publications pointed out, this news comes on the heels of earlier announcements that dramatically reduced the functionality originally expected to be included in the new operating system (OS).

Forrester Research has a more considered view, describing the delay as disappointing but a smart move given the product`s importance and [anticipated] longevity. In a research note entitled “Vista: It`ll Be A Blue Christmas Without You”, analysts Paul Jackson and Ted Schadler noted that the Microsoft announcement came as no surprise. “In our discussions with [chief Windows officer Jim] Allchin in January, he was a bit cagey about the delivery date,” they write.
