It almost slipped in under the radar but Nokia quietly confirmed its support for the open source software (OSS) movement a couple of months ago. The actual wording of the press release was: “Nokia Corporation announced today that it allows all its patents to be used in the further development of the Linux Kernel.

“Nokia believes that open source software communities, like open standards, foster innovation and make an important contribution to the creation and rapid adaptation of technologies,” it continued.

The announcement was coupled to the simultaneous posting of a statement of intent that is still available on the Nokia web site at (http://www.nokia.com/P23405).
