Many South African organisations have a long-standing investment in VMware. Now, the migration to cloud has been made even easier, with a co-engineered solution known as VMware Cloud on AWS – or VMware Cloud on Amazon Web Services (AWS). “VMware Cloud is a specific service that AWS offers to the market, engineered especially for VMware customers,” Spagnoletti says. “It’s a very mature service, and it has been available globally for some time. The exciting news is that in November 2022, AWS added the VMware Cloud on AWS service to the large amount of services supported locally through the AWS Region in South Africa. The launch of this service, for which iOCO was proud to be an AWS launch partner, brings huge benefits to our SA-based customers. Not only are there global benefits such as speed of migration, but now our customers’ data is stored, and accessed, within South Africa, and there is naturally no compromise with regard to latency. This offers huge advantages for VMware Cloud customers in terms of data sovereignty as well as latency.”
