The tyranny of notifications
Notifications are attention-seeking, mind-devouring filth. Turn them off.

I'm platform-agnostic. No, really – I have a Linux laptop and Windows desktop, and in my pocket, I sport an iPhone. Until recently, that is. My iPhone 6 is now seriously EOL, and I hate that they removed the headphone jack from succeeding models, so I bought a Nokia. This began the great migration that, several months in, is still happening.
I don't use notifications on my phone. Other than WhatsApp messages and SMS notices, nothing appears on my lock screen. I don't even have a ringtone – that sound just becomes a Cortisol spike. And I was able to carry on a completely functional existence – pay my taxes, meet friends, wash the dishes. Life went on.
