Harnessing AEON power

A young nuclear scientist is converting radio waves and solar energy into power.

02 April 2020

While completing his Honour's in applied physics, Shalton Mothwa, a nuclear physicist supported by Tshwane University of Technology, developed the AEON Power Bag, a backpack that allows people to charge electronic devices wirelessly by converting telecoms signals into electrical energy.

Mothwa, who began his studies at the University of Johannesburg, got accepted to go to The Joint Institute for Nuclear Research, in Dubna, Moscow, to undertake a programme in high-performance computing. When he returned to South Africa, he wanted to start his own business, but didn’t know where to begin.
