Some refer to digital transformation as a buzzword. Yet it refuses to go the way of many other bits of trendy jargon. That may be because the hype is real. Digital systems were a necessary part of building future performance and capacity. But the renewed urgency around digital transformation in the 21st century reveals how much digital has become part of everyday life. Digital environments are everywhere, which means digital transformation is happening all the time as well.

“We interact with digital on a day-to-day basis,” says Sihle Letlaka, chief architect, Infrastructure Services, Absa, adding this sparks digital transformation events. “When it comes to business, it happens in different pockets. But it’s one thing to say that our strategy is going digital. The practicality of how to actually do that, how to go about doing it, has been harder to figure out.”
