South Africa’s venture capital (VC) scene may be gaining the attention of some, but when compared to the rest of the world, it remains insignificant.
While the country recorded over R1.23 billion in new VC deals in 2019, the figure is a mere 0.07% of the $133 billion (over R1.8 trillion at the time) in new deals that the US, which makes up about half of global VC investments, recorded that same year.
