Is Eskom switched on?
A few major problems in the Cape area recently – problems which may recur – have again raised the question of whether Eskom is up to the task set for it: keep the lights on, and while you`re at it, get light to the rest of us, please.

When large areas of the Cape region – which includes not only the Western Cape, but also the Eastern Cape, parts of the Northern Cape and Namibia – were plunged into darkness late last year, a lot of people became instant energy experts. One way or another, most were wrong.
A longstanding fear, however, has resurfaced. This is the fear over the adequacy of South Africa`s generation capacity.
