In any given year, South African enterprises and the public sector spend hundreds of millions of dollars on technology, but following a couple of years of moribund spending, the country is playing catch-up. Most of the money is going to infrastructure, but there’s precious little being spent on advanced technologies, such as a machine learning, and collaboration tools.

In some ways, the country is in transition. So much seems to be possible with technology, but South African enterprises have more prosaic concerns, and aren’t placing tech at the centre of their businesses.
